Welcome to our April newsletter.

First, a couple of bits of parish news.

If anyone would like to attend the funeral of Brian Parsons, it will be on Friday 3rd May at the Chilterns Crematorium in Amersham at 2.45pm (NB: provisional time; to be confirmed), followed by drinks at our club.

Further to February’s AGM, the minutes have now been posted to our website here. You will need to be logged into the members area to view these.

Project update

The work is tracking to plan; in fact, slightly ahead of schedule.  The groundworks and floodlights will be completed this week and new asphalt will be laid next week.  Followed by installation of the playing surface.

We will have courts 7, 8 and 9 back on 6th May (and back on the booking system) and half of the car park.  That said, there will be some disruption when the TigerTurf surface is delivered - and we will take that opportunity to top-up the sand on courts 7 - 9 (we will also top-up the clay on courts 1 - 3 soon).

At our next Club Council meeting in June, we will be reviewing the competing bids for some smaller scale improvements to club facilities when finances permit, such as improvements to the entrance foyer and players’ bar; improvements to the squash courts; and LED floodlighting to tennis courts 1 - 3.

Squash & Racketball

This coming Saturday is Club Finals Day!

Adam is organising the junior events from 12 noon, and then the senior finals will start at 2pm with the Racketball Open final.  The Women’s Squash final is scheduled for 3.30pm and the Men's final for 5.30pm, with awards to follow.

The bar will be open from 2pm and the Pizza Kitchen from 4.30pm until 6.30pm.

Come along, bring the family, watch your friends in some brilliant matches, and wash down a pepperoni special with a couple of pints!

Tennis

Following the squash and racketball finals on Saturday, on Sunday our National League tennis team have their first home match of the season, and it promises to be a cracker!

We’ve done well in our opening away matches and we’re among the playoff spots.  But we now take on table-topping David Lloyd Raynes Park.

The match will be underway from 12 noon.  The bar will be open from 11.30am - and the kitchen too (until 2.30pm), serving paninis, pizzas, jacket potatoes and more.

Come on down and support!

These matches were a highlight of the calendar last year.  The standard of tennis is exceptional, the atmosphere is excellent, and the weather this weekend looks like it’s going to be warm and dry for once.  It really is a good afternoon, whether you’re a tennis player or not.

Indoors, Adam is running an England Squash junior competition from 9.30am until 3pm.  Bacon rolls, pastries, tea and coffee will be available from 9am.  It will be a busy and vibrant day at our club!  We’ll manage the footfall by largely keeping the squash gang to the lounge area and the tennis gang to the players bar area.

Also, while we’re squeezing in squash updates under the Tennis heading, now that all tennis players in their 20s have squash membership included, those of you with an U29 membership should make sure you’re giving squash and/or racketball a try.  Have a word with Adam or with Susannah/Vicky in the office to find out more about court bookings and how to get going.

P.S. News coming very soon about the updates to our tennis coaching framework; arrangements currently being finalised.

Social

Now that Spring is here and Summer is hopefully not far behind, a reminder that on Fridays our bar is open from 5pm (6pm on other weekdays) and the kitchen from 5.30pm until 8pm for pizzas and other favourites.

No better place than our club for that POETS getaway from the office, a game and a swift one to get your weekend going!

The ‘Spotlight on…’ feature is taking a break for April, so that’s all for now, until next month.
